I believe that through all of our efforts, all of our striving, all the ups, and all the downs, we have a most basic and desperate need for the love of God in our hearts.

There are so many ways we try to downplay or overlook our need for Jesus. Everywhere we go, everything we do. We tend to live from a place of “I got this,” when in reality, we most certainly do not. The mentality pursuant to our culture is one that glorifies the self-made millionaires and those who “started from the bottom, now they’re here”, (Drake reference – if you don’t know what I’m talking about, you’re not missing much). What happens though when men glorify themselves? Pride? Ego? Emptiness? The position we hold in life or the level of success we may reach pales in comparison the condition of our hearts and matters very little when we come to the end of our time here. You can’t take the mansion or the nice cars with you when you leave this earth.

Desperation. It’s is defined as – a state of despair, typically one that results in rash or extreme behavior. Now, I don’t know about you but I have been desperate many times in my life. Not easy to admit that one. Nonetheless, I have found myself staring desperation in the eyes which often and indefinitely leads to destruction. This is something I believe we are all good at during different seasons of our lives. Why? Could it be because we feel we are losing control, so we have one last attempt at shifting the outcome? Maybe, we believe that in our act of desperation something good will come of it. No matter the reason, desperation in this sense is done the wrong way.

What if we flip it? What if we became desperate for Jesus?

We are in desperate need of His love, grace, and mercy, in our lives. I know I am for sure, even as I write this, I am so tired from today, that it’s hard to finish a sentence. One that makes sense, anyway. Ha. Clearly, this is a very trivial example. Like..really Kendra? You’re in desperate need of Jesus because you’re sleepy? Hear me out. Every thought, every word, every motive of our heart is seen, and heard by Jesus. With that being said, I have had a rough day and dealt with a lot of frustration. I have seriously thought about “love tapping” a couple people. Hey. I’m just being honest. Would I ever? Hopefully, probably not. Thought about it though, oh yeah. Does that make it okay? No. It doesn’t. God’s word tells us that His grace is sufficient for us and His power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9), but this doesn’t give us free reign to go around slapping people or daydream about slapping people, quote a few verses, and carry on. We are to take captive every thought and make them obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). Shew. I can’t even think of the same thing long enough to take it captive most days, but when I do it’s mostly negative. This is something I have been and will continue to work on every day. I am not where I used to be with it. But, this. This is why I, we, are in desperate need of Jesus. If we are going to live the free lives He died to give us we are going to have to tap into His divine and perfect power through, oddly enough, desperation.

Understanding that we desperately need Jesus is the greatest wisdom we can have.

Much love,

K
